In news that had the entire gaming industry going mental, Washington DC based company Zenimax Media Inc has been bought by Microsoft for $7.5 billion
ZeniMax Media divisions include Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, Arkane Studios, Tango Gameworks, MachineGames, ZeniMax Online Studios, Alpha Dog Games, Roundhouse Studios, ZeniMax Europe Ltd., ZeniMax Asia K.K., ZeniMax Asia Pacific Limited, and ZeniMax Australia Pty Ltd
Franchises include Elder Scrolls, Dishonored, Fallout, Doom & Wolfenstein.
With the purchase of Bethesda, Microsoft will be adding Bethesda’s iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass. This includes Microsoft’s intent to bring Bethesda’s future games into Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or PC, like Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios.
The deal is yet to be finalised and is expected to be completed in the second half of the fiscal year 2021.
The announcement is well timed, just before the pre-order of Xbox Series X and Series S go live.
Maybe Microsoft can help Bethesda turn Fallout 76 into a good game…
